Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Do you have a birthday cutoff for entry?
There is no specific cut-off date for children entering school. We evaluate each child individually to determine the best placement for the child, dependent on his/her unique social, emotional and academic needs.
Do you have a before-care and after-care program?
Lower School children may attend the before-care program from 7:30-8:15am and/or the after-care program at dismissal
until 6:00pm for an hourly rate. Students are given quality supervision, nutritious snacks, a quiet area for reading and homework, and another area for board games, storytelling, arts and crafts and indoor/outdoor play. Charges are billed monthly by the Business Office. After-school enrichment courses are also offered several times a year.
Is lunch included in your tuition?
No, it is not. For our Lower School, we do offer a hot lunch program that is provided by Chartwells, a company that provides lunch service for many of the area private schools, or children are welcome to bring their own lunch. You can sign up for the whole year, or punch cards are available for purchase. For our Middle and Upper Schools, Chartwells provides lunch cart items for purchase.
What are your application deadlines?
We do not have a specific deadline for applications, but we do encourage families to apply in the fall/winter before the year they wish to enroll.
Does Roeper provide transportation?
The majority of families drive their children to school. Those looking for carpool opportunities are encouraged to access the Family Directory for families in their area or contact the Business Office for assistance. If you live in Bloomfield Hills or Birmingham, you are entitled to use the public school buses for transportation to The Roeper School. Please contact your public school system for further information. A shuttle bus service is available between the two campuses each morning and afternoon.
Where do Roeper families live?
Our families come from over 60 different communities throughout southeastern Michigan.
What foreign languages does Roeper offer?
In the Lower School, Stage I Domes and Stage II students take French at a level that matches their ability. Stage III and Stage IV students have a choice of continuing to study French or learning Spanish. Middle and Upper School students may take French, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, or Latin. We offer Advanced Placement classes in French, Spanish and Latin.
Do you offer merit scholarships?
No, we offer only need-based scholarships and financial aid. Some schools offer merit scholarships to enrich their populations with particularly strong students, but given our gifted student body, it would be difficult to single out particular students for merit. Also, the school is philosophically committed to recognizing and honoring the unique gifts of each student.
